2010 Member poll

March 30, 2010

I miss OGs!

I’m going with my top 10 because after that I arranged people by my preference for their unit.

1. Linlin previous ranking #8 – Holy crap do I love Linlin, and man did she move up on my list! As I started to watch more behind the scenes videos and TV appearances she just grew on me until she took my number one spot. She’s funny, has an awesome sense of humor, and can sing. I think she has the best set of pipes in all of Hello!Project today.

2. Mitsui Aika previous ranking #7 – Aika! I love her personality. She’s always smiling, but at the same time strikes me as the kind of person who wouldn’t hesitate to tell you like it is. I love confident people.

3. Michishige Sayumi previous ranking #10 – Sayu. Sayu. Sayu. The little viper of Momusu. She can’t really sing, and her “I’m so cute!” shtick is annoying, but reading her blog she strikes me as someone who I could easily be friends with in real life. She’s very open, isn’t afraid to take pictures of herself and post them on her blog when she looks less than her best, and she’s not afraid to say what she feels. She strikes me as the most “real” in her image and I really like that.

4. Tanaka Reina previous ranking #5 – Reina makes the list for the same reason she made the list last year, Reina is Reina. She’s strong and cute and the type of woman I want to be.

5. Fukuda Kanon previous ranking — – Kanon! I really can’t believe she’s in my top 5, but I really like her! She is just so cute and energetic, and reminds me (and everyone else apparently) of a young Aibon. She stood out immediately in Shugo Chara Egg! and I am so glad she’s been placed in an actual unit.

6 – 9. Takahashi Ai, Niigaki Risa, Kamei Eri, Linlin previous ranking — Man, you know, I love Momusu as a whole but really, neither Ai nor Risa nor Eri nor Linlin really stand out amongst each other to me. In truth I should have put Eri in front of Risa. Risa just seems to be trying to hard for me lately, maybe it’s just me. I really love them all, but if I had to put them in order of favorite members I’d really just rattle off their names as whomever came to me first. That’s a damn shame.

10. Yajima Maimi previous ranking — – I really freaking like C-ute, more than Berryz. They’re my second favorite group in Momusu. Honestly I don’t know the names of the girls (holy crap) as almost all my attention all the time is given to Momusu, but I love their music, so that’s why she lands in the number 10 spot.

1. Morning Musume – Does this need an explanation?
2. C-ute – I love C-ute!
3. Buono! – Buono! has had some awesome singles, and I love their image.
4. S/mileage – So far I have loved everything they’ve put out. I can’t wait for their major debut!
5. Guardians 4 – They ranked this high because of Aika, and I really like Aika!
6. Berryz Koubou – Jesus, I really think they should have placed higher, but more often than not I’m not really paying attention to them. They’ve had some awesome singles, but somehow, they just don’t command my attention at all.
7. Erina Mano – Poor Mano. I play the piano myself, I should be really liking this girl, but I just find her so completely boring. It’s not her fault, it’s her image, but man, she just doesn’t interest me at all.

So that’s that! That’s my 2010 ranking! I really miss the OGs, and my list would probably be a lot different if they were included, but alas, this is current H!P members only. It had to be easier on Paul though, losing so many people to keep track of!

10 My Me

March 24, 2010

I just purchased Morning Musume’s 10th and latest album 10 My Me on iTunes while I await the release of the American version in April. Buying it on iTunes and then purchasing the US release is still cheaper than importing the Japanese version, and the US release comes with everything the Japanese release has – even the trading card.

1. Moonlight Night ~ Tsukiyo no Ban da yo ~ Love this. Was thrown off a little bit by the sudden English spoken in the beginning of the song but it was a great marching anthem in the vein of The Manpower or Osaka Koi no Uta

2. Kimagure Princess Single Seriously, this song is about sexy butts. Tsunku thought it up while watching his kid run around naked. That is a true story. Well, the song is about a lonely girl who gets all dressed up and has no one to show off for, but the chorus is seriously about the girl’s nice butt, or her breasts. Don’t believe me? Here’s the translation

3. Genki Pika Pika! Standard upbeat GENKI song. It’s in the title. Doesn’t stand out for me. It’s a typical Momusu song.

4. Namidacchi Started out kind of slow, and I almost thought about skipping it over until later, but it got a beat to it. It still feels a bit like filler. Nothing awesome. I guarantee on future listens I will skip this song over to get to songs I like better.

5. Onna ga Medatte Naze Ikenai Single This was a pretty cool single. I really like the sound of it, even if it is a song about putting on make-up. Girl’s prerogative stuff. Plus I loved the outfits from the video, even if they do look like blood from far away. (It’s stenciled roses).

6. Ookii Hitomi Oh.My.God. They auto-tuned Sayu. Ouch. I’ve heard a lot about how awesome this song is, and I would totally agree – if they hadn’t used auto-tune. It makes me violent. I hate that shit. Otherwise, it has an awesome beat. But still auto-tune.

7. Ano Hi ni Modoritai A slower song, but not something I’d skip over. It has a nice kind of R&B beat.

8. Nanchatte Renai Single This was a solid single release as well. The rap part is a little weird when you first hear it, but it goes well with the song. Ah Koharu-chan, we will miss you!

9. Osaka Oshiinen Is this How do you like this Japan? Because that’s what it sounded like in the beginning. I can’t believe 8th gen got stuck with this song. It’s probably good in concert, but it so doesn’t fit the rest of the album at all.

10. Loving you forever Boooooooooooooring. Seriously. God, am I listening to Mano? The harmonies are nice, but this song will be another skipped song. But wait…. holy crap! Was that Linlin getting a couple solo lines? *falls down in shock* She needs to be put out front because she can sing. She blows everyone else in the group out of the water. Linlin is awesome.

11. Shouganai Yume Oibito Single Good song, one of the first in the new serious Momusu image. It’s got a real nice strength to it, everyone sounds fantastic. This is one I’ll definitely be blasting and singing along to as I drive down the road.

12. Ame no Furanai Hoshi de wa Aisenai Darou? (Chinese Ver.) This is a gorgeous ballad song that was originally released in Japanese on their last album. The original has a Chinese verse, but this is the all Chinese version, as the title says. And Wow! It sounds like Linlin and Junjun take main melody! That’s awesome! If not… singing the whole damn song by themselves! I’m even more shocked!

So all in all a pretty good album. It has it’s share of songs I’ll skip, but then most of their albums have two or three at least. Can’t win them all. I like this line up, but I still miss the OGs. I miss those super genki energetic days of old.

Acchan. I want to have your children.

Goodbye Miracle

March 1, 2010

I watched Koharu’s graduation concert tonight, I was a little concerned about the energy of it from just watching a few clips, as I don’t think the current line up has the genki energy of previous generations, but that’s also a shift in the tone of the group. But anyhow the concert was really good and definitely something I will be buying when I get some cash again.

I held out fine until Sayu’s good-bye speech. It’s clear the two of them, despite not really getting along, did care for each other. When Sayu lost it I started crying, and then they had Reina after her…. it was sad! I’m going to miss Koharu. She sure was a force of her own. She had a strange personality, one I can’t quite pinpoint. While a member of the group she seemed to stand apart on her own, she gets described as self centered by a number of the girls, which is easy to see, but she’s so damn likable despite that. I hope she does well in whatever she endeavors from here on.

Here’s her first solo PV (and still my favorite) from her voice role as Tsukishima Kirari in Kirarin Revolution. (I love her solo CDs!)
