Morning Musume vs. AKB48

August 28, 2010

Ok, I like AKB48, I really do, but this video only further cements why I love Momusu so much more. It was filmed live for a 33 hour telethon for disabled kids in Japan. (MS? Telethon, I’m not sure) but anyway it’s a melody of Studio Ghibli songs. Look at Momusu, dancing around the stage, smiling, giving it their all, and there’s AKB48, half of them look like they couldn’t give 2 shits and would rather be someplace else. I hardly think their manager told them to stand around with their thumbs up their ass while the camera is on them. Granted a few of them look like they’re trying, but for the most part, they don’t look it.

And for further example this following video was supposed to be a collab of AKB48 & Morning Musume singing Dekkai Uchuu ni Ai ga Aru, which is a Momusu song, but holy crap AKB! Show some goddamned energy! Now you just look like you’re too good to try against the group that, while their sales haven’t been as hardcore as yours lately, have been around for 3 times as long.

(EDIT 07/22/2012: The video for this is long gone on youtube. You might find it on a tracker somewhere.)

Kamei Eri, Junjun and Linlin are all graduating from Morning Musume :(

Eri is leaving for health reasons. Apparently she has a skin condition that is exacerbated by the heavy make-up she puts on to cover it, not to mention the physical conditions she pushes herself through at concerts, etc. So that I totally understand. She has decided to leave to make her health her first priority, which she should.

Junjun and Linlin, well this I am just shocked about. I love Linlin. She’s my current favorite member! She has such a beautiful and powerful voice, I was hoping she’d go solo if/when she ever graduated. She was always smiling, always joking around. I’ll be sad to see her go! I hope she releases some CDs on her own in China, it would be a shame to waste her talent!

9th Generation auditions will be held soon, but really, at this point, I can’t see it doing much good. They need a real miracle to get back to the numbers of sales they used to garner back in the day. That they’ve lasted TWELVE YEARS in the idol industry says a LOT for their staying power, but I wonder how long the machine can keep going?

Ah, maybe this all me just being over pessimistic. I really am shocked by their leaving.

I also think Moonlight Night ~Tsuki yo no ban da yo~ should have been a single.
