Cleaning up the act

July 27, 2012

I recently cleaned up the links on the sidebar, taking down blogs that haven’t updated in months and/or years, updating the sites I now go to daily for news and such, cleaning up Momusu blog links, but also removing links to websites that shall remain nameless that shamelessly refer to the size of the breasts of a 15 year old girl. This is not an association I want to have. You’re disgusting and promoting pedophilia.

I understand that a good portion of idol appeal is the fan service, it’s part of the business model. But that doesn’t mean I have to like it, or condone it, especially if it’s with young teenagers or children, as a large part of the new generations to Momusu are. It’s different if say Sayu or Reina or any of the OGs release a sexy photobook, that’s fine, they’re of the age to do what they want. But bikini shots of 13 year old girls is a little sickening, you know that they took those pictures to pander to a certain type of fan, the kind of fan I want nothing to do with.

July 22, 2012

Sooo… this blog has been largely defunct for a couple of years. It’s not that I’m no longer interested in Jpop, it’s that my interest in blogging about it waned quite a bit. A LOT of stuff has happened in the Momusu world since last I posted; Aika and Risa have graduated and 4 new members joined. Kago-chan had a baby, Miki had a baby, Yuko got married and is currently pregnant. Morning Musume released their 50th single, auditions are being held for 11th Gen, Reina’s holding auditions for her own rock band, etc. etc. etc.

While I haven’t been posting here I have been posting over on my lj, so I will be backdating those posts shortly. I’m not promising anything, but I’d like to try and become a bit of a regular poster again.

That being said, I love the sound of DIY♡’s first single.

A rant

January 18, 2011

This is nothing new, but the more I see it posted around, the older it gets.

I’m talking about people complaining about certain girls in H!P groups being attention whores, or line hogs, or spotlight stealers or whatever else they want to call it.

The people making these comments are not thinking. At all. They just want to complain about their favorite member not getting enough lines or screen-time or what have you.

Well guess what?

Everything about everything is decided by Tsunku (in the case of H!P). He writes the music, decides who gets what line, who appears at the forefront of videos, etc. The popular girls are going to go up front, the better dancers are going to go up front, the girls with more seniority are going to get the most screen-time because they are the people that the average joe consumer identifies all the easier. This is the nature of idol business. He is selling a product, as much as you might not like to hear it, it is all about image and how much he can sell to you.

And this just brings to mind the rant Maki had a couple weeks back about how when she was in Morning Musume she had no control as an artist. YOU’RE NOT AN ARTIST AT 13 YEARS OLD! You know jack-shit about ANYTHING. I love Maki, I really do, and I really like her solo stuff under Avex, but that comment was really stupid. As long as she’s been in show business I still can’t believe she’s complaining about her artistic rights as a young teenager. She sounds incredibly naive. She should be thankful for the opportunity. Yes she worked hard, but it was Tsunku who put her there to begin with. There are lots of girls who would kill for the chance to be an idol, let alone one as popular as Maki was in Momusu.

Thank you for bearing with me, I just had to get that off my chest. And I really hope people will stop bitching about the forefront girls getting all the limelight when they have no control over it in the first place.

Tsuji is pregnant again! Congratulations!

Congratulations to Non-chan!

She doesn’t know if it is a boy or girl yet, but the baby is due in January. She says she will continue her work as much as her health and condition allow.

Good on her! She’s really becoming an idol mama now! I was actually wondering, a little while ago, if she would have any more kids, because, as a sister of 3 other sisters, I think it’s great to have siblings and not be an only child. It’s also great not to have too much of an age gap, that way the kids get along better.

I’m so happy for her! This is fantastic news!

Congratulations again!

I am not dead!

January 20, 2009

This is just a post to let you know that I’m not dead and do have several things in my roster to review!

~ Buck-Tick’s newest PV and single: Galaxy (my fave of the two newest. LOVE!)
~ 2 Buck-Tick albums: Six/Nine and Kyokuto I Love You
~ Allo! Hello DVD vol 3
~ Morning Musume’s Naichau Kamo
~ Maki’s Fly Away (I *love* this)

I actually came down with a horrendous case of the flu the week before Christmas, was getting better the week of Christmas, and then ended up in the ER with severe dehydration the Saturday night following. I had to have 2 IVs and take 2 massive potassium pills. I had to have my blood taken 3 times for testing and was told it could be anything from anemia to mono to chronic fatigue syndrome. In the end I finally started to recover, everything came back positively A-OK, I thanked my lucky stars and decided it is time to get back to work. (Let’s hope I didn’t just jinx myself!)

Zwei? A little help please?

April 15, 2008

I’ve been listening to DJ Amaya’s Hitsuzen Radio podcasts this week at work, really great remixes of all kinds of songs, including jpop & anime, as well as original stuff.

One remix that really caught my attention was for Zwei’s single, Dragon. I’ve heard of the band before, but never heard them. Looking around online I found a wiki article, but it was woefully lacking in information. Their official site also seems to be static as it appears there’s been no updates since 2006.

Can anyone reccomend some songs to check out? Which album is best to start with (as they only have 2 currently) or even where to find some more information?

Just for fun

Which Morning Musume Member Are You?
created with
You scored as Mitsui Aika

You are most like Mitsui Aika! She is the most recent member of Momusu, and the only one to join in the 8th generation. Little is known about her personality so far, however she comes off as being friendly, nervous, and somewhat spacey. Time will tell if this will change.

On the passing of Heath Ledger

January 23, 2008

I’m going to take a moment out here to comment on the passing of actor Heath Ledger. This is a tragedy. I’ve carried a torch for him since I was 17 and ROAR first aired on FOX. He is the first actor of my generation whom I deeply admired who has passed too young. He and myself are both 28 years old.

I am absolutely shocked and terribly saddened by his death. My heart goes out to his family, and I hope that the facts will bear out that it was an accidental death, and that he was not suffering so badly that he chose to end his own life. He was an extremely talented actor and he will be sorely missed by his fans, friends and family.

Thanks for everything you gave us. I hope you are at peace now. I love you still.

Oh yeah!

July 27, 2007

I’m in the process of moving and starting a new job so time has been preciously short as of late, which equals lack of posts. And while I am posting right now, this post is totally unrelated to anything Japanese.

One of my other, actually my main obsession is the gothic daytime tv show Dark Shadows that ran from 1966 – 1971 on ABC TV. (I’m only 27 so I didn’t see the original run on TV but my Mother and Father were fans back in the day.) Anyhow the series after the first year followed the adventures and trials of the 200 year old vampire Barnabas Collins and his quest to become human again as he battle against ghosts, other vampires, werewolves, the Devil and his henchmen, Lovecraftian-elder Gods and his own bloodlust. The show traveled through several different periods in the Collins family history, my favorite being 1897, and also visited parallel bands of time. It’s a bit campy at times to watch now, but it has it’s spooky moments and I absolutely adore it.

I just read via the Dark Shadows related forums that I inhabit that Johnny Depp, who is a fan of the series as well and has vocally admitted his desire to play Barnabas in a DS feature, has partnered with Warner Brothers who will be bank rolling the picture, and some other people I forget the names of, to bring the series to the big screen for the 3rd time (there were two movies during the series run in the 60s & 70s). I am BEYOND ecstatic by this news, you have no idea! A few years ago there was an attempt to bring the TV show back but after an amazing looking pilot was filmed the WB decided to go with another show (they were hoping to fill the Buffy time slot). There was also a very well done mini-series done back in 1990/1991 that ran for 12 episodes.

My fandom knows no bounds for this show. I collect the merchandise (there was A LOT back in the 60s, posters, books, magazines, trading cards, stuffed heads, puzzles, model kits, record soundtracks, 45rpm singles, comic books, the list goes on), I’ve been to 3 DS cons, two at which I won best costume, and am going to a 4th con this August to meet the man himself, Jonathan Frid, who played Barnabas Collins.

I am even geeky enough to have made a music video dedicated to an early storyline in the series after Barnabas was released from his coffin after 172 years of confinement, had yet to find his humanity once again and kidnapped/tortured local girl Maggie Evans in an attempt to resurrect his long lost love Josette Dupres who jumped from a cliff rather than become what he was. I am a total dork for Dark Shadows.
